The problem
A tenant wanted a mezzanine inside a leased unit, but the existing slab and columns were never designed for the extra load.
What I did
Assessed the capacity of the existing concrete frame against the proposed mezzanine loads
Designed a self-supporting steel mezzanine that transfers load to strengthened columns
Produced signed and sealed plans and coordinated with the building administration
Outcome
The mezzanine was approved by the building administration and built during a single fit-out period.
